The main project’s objective is to realize a software and hardware infrastructure called Cooperative Cartographic System (SCC) in order to share at national level the cartographic data available in the Territory and to support the planning, control and managing of the water policies, and the zoning and risk assessment.
The SCC infrastructure is an Information and Technological System formed by a Central Node, the National Cartographic Portal (PCN – www.pcn.minambiente.it), and some Peripheral Nodes located at the headquarters of Regional/Provincial Public Bodies and Watershed Authorities. This Infrastructure is the result of the application at national level of the INSPIRE Directive for the sharing of relevant, homogeneous and good quality geographical data, for the formulation, implementation and monitoring of European and national policies impacting on the territory.
The SCC makes available a variety of software application based on open-source technology, such as:
- modules for data visualization via WEB (WEBGIS);
- modules for data preparation and data sharing (METADATAMANAGER);
- GIS application (DeskTop GIS – AdB ToolBox) to support the water and environmental analysis, as well as the decision-making process concerning both the application of emergency procedures and planning policies.
