The project is included among the priority under the National Delegate’s “Programme of Interventions” defined to face the socio-economic and environmental emergency in the Aterno River Basin.

The overall project objective is to contribute to overcoming the state of emergency through the solution of the problems related to water resources quality and quantity in the basin and those related to water resource availability and their sustainable use.

The specific project objectives include:

  • to support the client in the definition and implementation of an Action plan for the rational and sustainable use of water resources in compliance with Community legislation related to water resources planning and management;
  • to ensure the protection and improvement of the ecological status of the river in order to preserve the quality of surface and ground water resources for human consumption and increase the overall availability of resources;
  • to define the priority actions and the structural and non-structural measures to be implemented in order to achieve the project objectives;
  • the project results have been included in the priority actions implemented by the Abruzzo Region through a regional specific legislation (Legge obiettivo).
