Flood protection workshop in Moldova

The Final Project Workshop focusing on the results of the project “Management and technical assistance to the flood protection project in the Republic of Moldova” was held on March 11, 2016 in Chişinău, capital of the Moldova Republic. The meeting took place in the presence of Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Andrian Delinschi, and representatives of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Mr. Mark Beros and Mrs. Nathalie Binet.
The initiative was organized by the EIB to explain, to stakeholders and to future international donors, the results obtained by the project, which is an initiative funded by the EIB (the Moldovan Ministry of Environment designated as beneficiary) in the framework of the “European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)”.
BETA Studio carried out the project as leader of a Joint Venture with HR Wallingford Ltd (UK).
During the event the representatives of BETA Studio (Mr. Enrico Frank and Mr. Agostino Avanzi) and HR Wallingford (Mr. David Ramsbottom), presented the results of the Master Plan for hydraulic risk management, drawn up as part of the assignment, then illustrating the short-medium and long-term investment strategies to reduce this risk in the Country. The Master Plan includes 84 structural interventions (flood retention basins, reinforcement of existing flood protection works, …) for a total cost of 325 million euros, and non-structural measures (development of forecasting systems, emergency plans, maintenance of existing works, …) for a cost of 120 million euros.
